We had the pleasure of meeting lee today and what a difference in just one session! I've taken my dog for a walk this evening using the tips and techniques he shown me and what a difference it has made. My dog is now listening to me even when dogs are present which i didnt think was possible. Highly recommend! Thank you!!
A very infomative session. Lots of lessons learned and appreciated. As Lee says its the humans that need training . We know that if we need any further support Lee is there to lead us in the right direction
I am delighted with the results I got from Lee helping me with Jax. I knew it was my fault I was making Jax reactive, however stopping was difficult, if your nervous your dog knows! The ability Lee has with dogs is second to none, his ability with people is fantastic! I have been on more of a journey than Jax if I am honest. I cannot recommed Lee enough I really can't, he made it seem like magic, I can't believe what we achieved. Thank you so much Lee from us all esp. Jax
Understood our needs immediately and observed our puppy’s behaviour excellently to give us a bespoke training plan. Couldn’t have been happier with the professionalism and comfort in knowing that the training we will now provide will help our puppy develop the right way.
He was very friendly and gave very good advice, advised we can get in touch anytime if we need any further help. Also sent more information to help via wasap.

Lisa was amazing tonight. She was so accommodating. She kept us up to date on our baby Rose. We couldn't have asked for more. Rose also loved spending time with Lisa. Thank you so much ❤️ x
Highly recommend, photo updates were sent to me during the pet sitting which was greatly appreciated and made me feel relieved that Tula was being well looked after and happy🐶
Lisa is lovely auntie for our 2 Jack Russell pups Chico & Charlie, We've met Lisa 3 times already and she is always caring our pups with sincere love❤️ Chico & Charlie love Lisa so much, they trained a lot by Lisa, she keeps sending photos how they are doing and it reduces our worries a lot about left them home themselves. We are very very lucky to know Lisa, I'm sure she is the best of best animal sitter in the world!🌎❤️ Highly recommend! Lots of Love, Chico, Charlie, MJ & Gary
Lisa is fab with our boy jaks who is a 1 year old Boxer, she really knows her stuff and has done a training package for him and us with lots of good advice Judy has also walked Jaks when Lisa was on holiday and she was fab too Jaks loves his walks with them
Lisa took care of our 20 year old cat for a period when a family member was hospitalised. Lisa and her staff member; Jade, went way above and beyond in their care, taking as much care as I'm sure they would for their own animal or we would have taken. Nothing was a problem, including buying special food in town for a finicky eater! They spent quality time interacting each day, not just "food and litter duty". When our relative died and it was necessary to send our cat to our home abroad, Lisa even came on the departure day, because we couldn't, to see her off and make sure everything went to plan. I can totally recommend Lisa to take care of any pet care needs and thank you Lisa, you're amazing!

I contacted Ian for some help with my Gsd for solid obedience training, being a mum with 2 young children and a baby it was a struggle to find extra time myself to get our dog up to the standard our family needed for us all to enjoy time out together without it being stressful. Ian has given us so much more than a very well trained dog, she’s come home an absolute delight! Off to the park with the kids and I don’t have to worry once about the dog, now I’ve just got to persuade him to train my kids! 🤣 Highly highly recommend this guy, if you’re wanting actual results for your money he’s the man! Very happy clients, thank you Ian and of course Ro for all your hard work and love you put into our girl.
Great trainer!
Amazing dog trainer recommended to us. Our german shepherd is a completely different puppy who we can now easily walk past other dogs with no issue. Ian trained us to train our dog and it worked amazingly well! Highly reccomend
We recently used Sexton Dogs to board our GSD Obi for 5 nights. We have never left him with anyone other than family before but after the meet and greet and trial night, we felt comfortable and confident that Obi would be well looked after. They are experts in dog training so we didn’t have to worry about any potential issues when we were away. We got lots of updates throughout his stay and we were able to enjoy our holiday knowing he was in safe hands. He is already booked for another week in September and we will be using them every time we are away from now on. Thank you for looking after Obi like he was your own dog!
I came across Ian at Sexton Dogs through Instagram and was honestly amazed at how well-behaved his girls were. At the time, I was really struggling with Bear’s recall, especially around livestock – he would chase in unsafe environments and I didn’t always feel confident letting him off the lead. Since working with Ian on Bear’s off-lead recall, I’ve seen a massive difference in his behaviour. It’s been a total game-changer. I now feel confident that I can recall him away from anything, which is something I never thought I’d be able to say! Here is a photo of the very well behaved Girls teaching me and Bear how its done!

Finding qualified dog trainers in Silksworth means connecting with professionals who understand the unique character of this friendly Sunderland suburb. From training puppies in the residential streets near Silksworth Sports Complex to managing reactive dogs around the popular walking routes at Silksworth Lake, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy socialisation programmes tailored to local life.
Serving Silksworth and surrounding areas including Tunstall, Ryhope, and Doxford Park, we've successfully trained over 850 dogs in the Sunderland area over the past eight years. Our expertise addresses the specific needs of dog ownership in this community-focused area, from navigating the busy pathways around Silksworth Recreation Ground to enjoying safe off-lead exercise throughout local green spaces.
Silksworth presents specific training opportunities shaped by its excellent network of parks, recreational facilities, and tight-knit community atmosphere. The area's centrepiece, Silksworth Lake and surrounding parkland, provides outstanding training environments but also means dogs regularly encounter other canines, wildlife, and diverse activities including joggers, cyclists, and families, making proper socialisation and recall training essential.
Our trainers specialise in preparing dogs for Silksworth's community lifestyle, including desensitisation to local traffic patterns along Newcastle Road, confidence building around the busy Silksworth Sports Complex, and developing excellent public manners for the neighbourhood's many shared spaces. We understand the importance of creating well-adjusted dogs suitable for the area's predominantly residential streets with terraced and semi-detached housing where good neighbour relations matter.
Our puppy programmes establish crucial early foundations during the vital 8-16 week socialisation period. We introduce young dogs to Silksworth's environment including local park activity, household sounds, and the various surfaces found throughout residential areas. Training covers house training, crate training for smaller homes, bite inhibition, and essential commands, with controlled socialisation helping puppies develop confidence that prevents future behavioural challenges.
For dogs enjoying Silksworth's open spaces, reliable recall proves essential for safe, enjoyable walks. We develop solid off-lead control despite distractions including other dogs around Silksworth Lake, wildlife in surrounding areas, and activity at local playing fields. Training ensures your dog responds reliably whether exploring quiet residential streets or busier recreational areas, giving you confidence to provide proper exercise while maintaining complete control.
Popular walking routes occasionally reveal reactivity challenges. Our programmes address leash reactivity on neighbourhood pavements, fear-based responses, and barrier frustration using positive reinforcement and systematic desensitisation. Progressive training in controlled environments builds tolerance gradually, replacing problematic behaviours with calm focus even when encountering triggers on regular walking routes throughout Silksworth and surrounding areas.
Dog training in Silksworth typically costs £35-65 per hour for private sessions, with package deals ranging from £240-450 for comprehensive 6-8 week programmes. Group classes generally cost £10-18 per session, offering excellent value for socialisation and basic obedience training within the local community.
Silksworth offers excellent training locations including the paths around Silksworth Lake for distraction work, Silksworth Recreation Ground for open space training, and quieter residential streets for lead work practice. The varied environments allow progressive training from low to high distraction levels, building reliable behaviours applicable throughout your daily routines.
Begin training immediately when bringing your puppy home around 8 weeks old. The critical socialisation window between 8-16 weeks makes early exposure to Silksworth's environment essential. However, dogs of all ages benefit from training—adult and rescue dogs can learn new behaviours and overcome existing issues regardless of their history.
Professional dog training in Silksworth creates well-mannered, confident companions perfectly suited to community life in this welcoming Sunderland suburb. Our proven methods combine expert techniques with local knowledge, ensuring your dog thrives whether walking around Silksworth Lake or relaxing at home. Contact us today to schedule your consultation and begin your journey toward a perfectly trained dog who's a valued member of your family and the Silksworth community.
