We bought Maisie from Rory 24 months ago and his support and brilliant dog training sessions are excellent and I would recommend Rory and Link K9 to anyone looking to purchase a German shepherd he is absolutely wonderful with amazing dogs. Andy, Nicky and Alfie. Thank you Rory
Spent an hour with Rory as my 2year old German shepherd pulls on the lead and is aggressive towards other dogs. Rory in a matter of minutes had her walking to heel. He also explained why she did this and I also had her walking to heel instructioned by Rory. Rory then moved onto the aggressive problem by introducing his GSD. It was brilliant my dog didn't growl or jump up and didn't react to either of Rory's dogs. Best hour I've spent. On the walk how it was now a joy to walk my dog. I highly recommend Rory's training methods and advice.
I got Kai from Rory 3 months ago and he is the best dog. I talked to Rory a lot before making the final decision, to make sure I get a right dog for my family and Kai is everything I expected: smart, healthy, well-trained and obedient but also extremely sweet and gentle to family members and friends. He is truly a family protection dog - friendly to everyone until I give him the right command. I feel completely safe having him in the house or walking with him at night, I know he could protect me if I was attacked. Rory is very professional, he cares about his dogs a lot and spends a lot of time in training them well, Kai is socialized, not scared of getting on the train or going to crowded places and very friendly to other dogs. Rory made sure to get him used to everything. Kai was definitely worth his price and it was a pleasure to work with Rory and Karl, thank you for giving me a new family member. If you are looking for a protection dog for your family then this is absolutely the best place to get it.
Absolutely amazing. Really knows his stuff

Had two 121s with Vicki and think the penny is beginning to drop! She is very knowledgeable and can see immediately were you are going wrong with your dog.She seems to see things from the dogs point of view and really educates you to tap into that.Charlie adores her!!
Absolutely love them. We did the bronze course which they do not rush, compared to other training centres. The setting is lovely, with indoor and outdoor areas, the dogs get to learn extra things when there is spare time, and owners practise loads more than needed. Pass rate seems high, and the amazing staff are practical, warm, very helpful, and give great tips! I highly recommend!
Fantastic trainers great advice highly recommended
I highly recommend West Lancs Canine Centre for training of both dogs and their owners. A totally positive experience for everyone with good learning styled to address the quirks in each dog’s personalities. We have been through Puppy foundation to attending Gold classes now, and with our new pup, we have gone through puppy foundation and are on bronze. Both of our dogs are very different personalities and breeds- yet both dogs are making fantastic progress. The classes are fun so you can make friends too, but above all, total support and backing all the way. Thank you Vicky, Pauline and Brian for all the great work and help that you do for me, Zane, Walter and Martha. X
Finding experienced dog trainers in Formby means connecting with professionals who understand the unique character of this picturesque Merseyside town. From training puppies to navigate the expansive Formby Beach and coastal dunes to managing reactive dogs along the pine woods of National Trust pathways, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and socialisation programmes tailored to local environments.
Serving all areas including Freshfield, Woodvale, Little Altcar, and the village centre, we've successfully trained over 1,800 dogs in Formby and surrounding areas during the past decade. Our expertise addresses the specific needs of coastal living, from recall training on open beaches to managing dogs around the famous red squirrel population in Formby's protected woodlands.
Formby presents distinctive training opportunities shaped by its unique coastal environment and affluent suburban character. The town's proximity to Formby Beach, one of the longest beaches in the North West, provides excellent training grounds but demands reliable recall skills given the vast open spaces. The protected pine woods and sand dunes require dogs to ignore wildlife distractions, particularly squirrels and ground-nesting birds during sensitive seasons.
With many Formby residents living in detached properties with gardens, training often focuses on boundary manners, gate behaviour, and off-lead reliability rather than the close-quarters challenges of urban areas. However, the popular Village Centre along Chapel Lane and busy areas near Formby Station still require excellent lead manners and social skills for cafe visits and shopping trips.
We provide comprehensive dog training throughout Formby, covering L37 postcode areas including Freshfield Station vicinity, areas surrounding Formby High School, and residential streets near Victoria Road. Our trainers utilise local venues including Formby Beach for distraction training, the quieter paths through Ravenmeols Hills, and controlled environments near Formby Pool for foundational work.
We serve communities from the coastal areas near Lifeboat Road to inland neighbourhoods around Altcar Road, with mobile services bringing professional training directly to your home. Initial consultations are typically scheduled within 48 hours, whether you live in a family home near the golf courses or closer to the Freshfield conservation area.
Our specialised beach training programmes develop reliable recall essential for safely enjoying Formby's stunning coastline. We teach dogs to respond immediately despite the temptations of other dogs, seabirds, and open space, while respecting protected dune areas and wildlife zones required by local conservation regulations.
Early puppy training focuses on building confidence in Formby's varied environments, from sandy terrain to woodland paths. We cover essential commands, lead walking suitable for village pavements, and controlled socialisation ensuring puppies develop into well-adjusted companions ready for Formby's active outdoor lifestyle.
Dog training in Formby typically ranges from £45-80 per hour for private sessions, with 6-week programmes costing £300-550. Group classes average £15-25 per session, reflecting the area's local pricing standards.
Yes, most dogs can achieve reliable beach recall with proper training. We use Formby Beach's controlled sections for progressive training, building distraction-proofed responses over 6-10 sessions. This training is essential given the beach's popularity and protected status, ensuring your dog remains under control while enjoying the freedom of coastal exercise.
Professional dog training in Formby creates well-behaved companions perfectly suited to coastal living. Our proven methods combine practical skills with understanding of local environments, from beach etiquette to woodland trail manners. Whether you're in Freshfield or the village centre, investing in training ensures your dog becomes a confident, reliable companion ready for everything Formby's beautiful landscapes offer.
