We have been doing a 12 week foundation course with Acer gun dogs. Today we passed our field test! It has been an absolutely amazing course, brilliant teachers and is taught in such a good way. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if you want to develop a closer bond and understanding with your dog, there is nowhere else to go!

Acer cancelled my course subscription at short notice under a very unconvincing excuse. They are very unprofessional. CORRECTION: I called the owner's (insurance-related) reason given to me for cancelling my subscription "unconvincing". In his reply, the owner states a very different reason. He chose to intervene in a family situation and disrupt an imperfect but a balance nevertheless causing much emotional turmoil. To top it all off, he made public claims about my daughter. She or people who know her are likely to find his post. This is very insensitive to a child. I won't be drawn into discussing very personal and private affairs in public. It's right to keep this 1-star review here. If the attempt at family cancelling by Acer's owner happened to my family, it can happen to others.

We have been training with Acer since our puppy Lola was 8 weeks old and the courses are fantastic. For our most recent courses on the beginner gun dog course we’ve had Nicole and she is just BRILLIANT as a trainer. She has the patience of a saint and will adapt all of her advice to the individual dog. There were times where Lola just didn’t want to do as she was told/was very distracted at the field with all the smells but Nicole always came up with ways to support and help us and never made it seem like an impossible task! The advice is always tailored to you personally and the experiences you’re going through with your own dog. We couldn’t recommend Acer enough!

Absolutely nothing negative to say! We went with some family, dogs, kids and adults! The kids had the best time playing in the pool with the dogs! It was like our own private hour long party! Everyone had a fantastic time and very tired humans and dogs afterwards. Perfect for our dog who is selective with his friends, he could run free swimming and playing ball to his hearts content!

As the weather was too warm for a normal walk, I booked an hour in the secure field with the pool. My dog, Mabel absolutely loved it, we will be back

I recently took my reactive dog Winnie on one of Suppawt Dog Training’s supported walks, and I couldn’t be more impressed. Winnie struggles particularly with new people, especially men, so I was a little nervous going in. But Dan and his team were absolutely brilliant with him — calm, understanding, and patient every step of the way. It was a huge relief to be around like-minded dog owners who understand that not every dog has an easy ride. The walk was well-organised, pressure-free, and created a really safe space for both dogs and owners. For once, I didn’t feel like I had to explain or apologise for my dog’s behaviour — and that alone was worth it. Thank you Suppawt for making such a positive difference for both of us. We’ll definitely be back!

We had three sessions with Lily to iron out some of the behaviours with our dog that made it difficult for family members who arent dog fans - jumping up, overly excited behaviour and some food stealing from the kids! Its easy to read online advice but it cant compare to actually having someone tailor it to your dog, show you in real life and help you with your attempts. Its already made a difference and I'd definitely recommend!

I highly recommend leaps and bounds. The trainers there are absolutely amazing and super knowledgeable. They do everything they can to help you with any issue. I have struggled with my rescue puppy and they have just been extremely helpful. I see Nat for my sessions who has been a trainer, shoulder to cry on and someone to make you laugh when you need it. Even though I am in class with Nat, Tammy the owner and Nic who is a trainer and in the office ask for updates and check in with how we are doing. I will never take Pablo or future dogs anywhere else 🐾

Love the team at Leaps and Bounds. Especially Tammy, Jo and Kate from my days of attending years ago with my boy Gizmo. They were always very positive and encouraging and catered for all size dogs and temperaments. Love the agility course they have and since they've expanded their team and facilties. My mum and brothers border terriers went to pup classes the years after Gizmo and they had a very positive experience too, and highly regarded Natalie as a wonderful trainer. Working as a Veterinary Surgeon I'm constantly meeting young pups or dogs that are rehomes etc, it's great to have a place to be able to guide and recommend to new and experienced dog owners alike. 5 stars from the Keen and Border fanatic family xxx

Both our dogs attend Leaps and Bounds group classes. The classes include dogs at similar levels of development and are very well resourced and varied in content. Nat and her colleagues create a very positive environment while never shying away from areas that need addressing. Both dogs love going and have progressed to more advanced classes and this helps me adapt my training to their changing needs. I thoroughly recommend Leaps and Bounds.

Professional Dog Trainers in Cambridge City Centre: Expert Canine Training

Finding skilled dog trainers in Cambridge City Centre means connecting with professionals who understand the unique challenges of raising dogs in this historic university city. From training puppies to navigate the cobbled streets near King's College to managing reactive dogs along the River Cam towpath, our certified trainers deliver specialised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy socialisation programmes tailored to urban living in Cambridge's bustling centre.

Serving areas including Market Square, the Grafton Centre, Mill Road, and neighbourhoods surrounding Parker's Piece, we've successfully trained over 1,800 dogs across the city centre in the past eight years. Our expertise addresses the distinct challenges of city centre dog ownership, from navigating busy pedestrian areas near the Grand Arcade to enjoying off-lead exercise at Christ's Pieces and Midsummer Common.

Why Choose Professional Dog Training in Cambridge City Centre

Cambridge City Centre presents unique training requirements shaped by its blend of medieval architecture, cycling culture, and constant tourist activity. The city's narrow pavements, busy market days, and high concentration of cyclists require dogs with excellent lead manners and impulse control. Popular walking spots including Jesus Green, Sheep's Green, and the Backs mean dogs encounter numerous other canines daily, making proper socialisation essential.

Our trainers specialise in desensitising dogs to Cambridge-specific stimuli including college bells, punts on the river, crowds during May Week, and the constant presence of bicycles throughout CB1 and CB2 postcodes. Many city centre residents live in Victorian terraces or converted flats with limited private outdoor space, requiring dogs that can walk calmly through busy streets to reach exercise areas and behave impeccably in public spaces.

Dog Training Solutions for Cambridge City Centre Residents

Puppy Foundation and Urban Socialisation

Our puppy programmes focus on the critical 8-16 week period, introducing young dogs to Cambridge's urban environment including market sounds, cyclist traffic, tourist crowds near Trinity College, and various surfaces from cobblestones to modern pavements. Training covers house training for city living, basic commands, and controlled socialisation at locations like Coe Fen and Lammas Land, building confidence that prevents future anxiety.

Reactive Dog Rehabilitation and Lead Manners

Cambridge's narrow pavements and high dog density often trigger reactivity issues. Our behaviour modification addresses leash reactivity, cyclist-related anxiety, and fear responses using positive reinforcement techniques. Progressive training along quieter routes like Midsummer Common paths builds tolerance before advancing to busier areas like Sidney Street and Bridge Street.

City Centre Etiquette and Public Behaviour

We specialise in preparing dogs for Cambridge's dog-friendly culture, including settling calmly in riverside cafés, navigating the Grafton Centre without pulling, and maintaining composure amid punting activity. Dogs learn to ignore food near market stalls, walk politely past outdoor seating areas, and remain focused despite constant cyclist movement, essential skills for harmonious city centre living.

Common Questions About Dog Training in Cambridge City Centre

How much does dog training cost in Cambridge City Centre?

Dog training in Cambridge City Centre typically ranges from £50-85 per hour for private sessions, with 6-8 week packages averaging £350-550. Group classes cost £18-28 per session, while puppy courses spanning six weeks average £200-320. The city's higher cost of living is reflected in pricing, though trainer qualifications and proven results matter most when selecting a professional.

Can my dog be trained to handle Cambridge's cycling traffic?

Yes, dogs can be systematically desensitised to cyclists through gradual exposure and positive reinforcement. Training typically requires 4-8 sessions, starting with stationary bikes, progressing to slow-moving cycles at distance, and eventually maintaining calm focus as cyclists pass closely. Most Cambridge dogs achieve reliable cyclist tolerance within 6-10 weeks, essential for navigating the city's cycle-heavy streets safely.
