Tom & Victoria have been absolutely amazing at helping us with our cavapoo puppy ‘Freddie’ since we got him. They gave us a detailed, personalised plan for Freddie after a very thorough assessment which has helped us greatly. The follow up videos from Tom have been invaluable and we will continue to refer back to these for a long time!! They are extremely knowledgeable, always at the end of the phone if you need any help/tips and deeply care about their clients/dogs. Thank you so much Uncle Tom and Victoria!!! Would recommend to anyone
I contacted Pooch on a Pedestal after our rescue puppy started to develop some challenging behaviours at home and outside. Victoria has been so helpful in helping us identify triggers and appropriate interventions and activities for Jimmy to help get him back on track. They have helped us manage doggy sibling relationships, socialisation, fear barking/reactivity, separation and more. I couldn’t be more pleased with the constant support we’ve had at all times and will continue to work with Pooch on a Pedestal moving forward.
Victoria and Tom have a wonderful way about them. They have worked so hard with our rescue dogs. If you value, kindest and experience then these are the team for you and your doggo.
We had a fantastic experience with Victoria and Tom! They were absolutely brilliant with our golden retriever—so patient, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do. They provided us with a really detailed training plan and even sent over a video to help guide us at home, which made a huge difference. They were also incredibly friendly and easy to talk to, which put us (and our dog!) at ease right away. Thanks to their support, he’s doing so well with his training. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for expert, caring trainers!
Tom and Victoria are the Pooch on a Pedestal dream team! When we adopted our working cocker spaniel puppy we were at a loss as how to best train her and meet her insatiable energy levels! After an initial assessment and intense training sessions with Victoria, Sadie has been going on regular socialization walks with Tom and has recently graduated to ‘cocker club’ 😂 we are so grateful to Tom and Victoria for their expert knowledge and genuine affection for the dogs they work with. Their advice and support guided us through the early stages, helping us to understand Sadie and facilitating her smooth transition into our family. Thank you! 🐶🐾

Rich is a great dog walker. Trixie loves spending time with him and running with the pack. He’s always dependable and goes the extra mile to help us out when needed.
Has been walking my dog Cuba for 2 years. Cuba absolutely loves him and the other dogs he goes out with. Wouldn’t be without him!!
Rich is a brilliant dog walker who clearly loves every dog in his care. He knows the personalities of his regulars and advises the best match for your dog, which is invaluable. Our 18-month retriever has gained so much confidence with other dogs and she's always exhausted and happy after going out. The Instagram stories are a highlight of our Thursdays. Thank you, Rich!
My dog Earnie looks forward every week to going out on long hikes with Jago walkies, from doing one day a week or doing all 5 nothing is too much from Richie he literally goes above and beyond
Rich is the most amazing dog walker! Our lab willow absolutely loves her walks with him and her four legged friends, and it really helps us to know she is having an amazing walk. She is knackered when she gets back!! Richard is super reliable and has never let us down. He is super trustworthy and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone!

Fantastic trainer, patient and kind
We started taking our puppy 2 weeks ago. We are getting better results with cues, tips on behaviour, and advice on building the confidence of our pup and us. Tamara is amazing
Questions not applicable as it is a puppy training course. Fantastic information and any questions answered on a group or individual basis.
Fabulous dog trainer. Can perform miracles!
We took our black Labrador puppy to Propups puppy classes. We not only thoroughly enjoyed the classes but felt they gave us the tools we need to raise Rosie correctly. It was also great to be able to get advice and support from the trainers during the class on other issues we were experiencing. We will be signing up for graduate classes to continue the learning!

Have used Emma on a 1-1 basis on a couple of occasions and also attended her classes. Her knowledge is amazing and her help with some issues have been invaluable . Highly recommend to anyone looking for help with training or behaviours that need addressing Emma is that person 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Attending the practical puppy course. The course was informative and fun for both us and the pippy. Emma is really supportive and always happy to answer any questions or concerns. Would highly recommend for first time puppy owners who want a little head start on getting the basics cemented early.
Emma has been a life saver today. I found a stray dog and brought him home to try and track down the owners. After no joy on the Facebook groups or with the Council, I found Emma on a website for scanning microchips. She came to the house straight away and got on with helping. The pup was taken to the dogs home and registered as missing with the dog warden. Emma was comfortable with the dog, clearly knew what she was doing. I'd recommend her services to all! Thanks again.

Gareth and his team have walked our beloved Labrador Coco since she was a pup and she’s now almost 14. We don’t know what we would have done without Gareth he is absolutely fantastic. He and his team really love dogs and will go out of their way to get to know your dog and your family’s preferences. Gareth is also probably the nicest and funniest person I know 🥰 would 💯 recommend
We've used Pontcanna Dog Walking for a number of years now. They're brilliant and really accommodating to our unpredictable schedule and the ad-hoc nature of booking and changing walks really works for us. Would absolutely recommend and will continue to use.
Our previous dog loved his walks with this mottly crew as does our current crazy lurcher. They are always well looked after, experienced walkers not phased by dog antics and dogs always come back tired and happy 😊❤️🐕
We’ve been using Pontcanna Dog Walking for our Toller for 6 years! They are absolutely brilliant! Reliable and affordable and always take the best care of our dog. He adores the team!
Finding experienced dog trainers in Pontcanna means connecting with professionals who understand the unique character of this leafy Cardiff suburb where Victorian terraces meet expansive green spaces. From training puppies along the River Taff paths to managing reactive dogs in the popular Pontcanna Fields, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy socialisation programmes tailored to this distinctive community.
Serving CF11 postcodes including Pontcanna, Canton borders, and surrounding areas, we've successfully trained over 850 dogs in this neighbourhood. Our expertise addresses the specific needs of Pontcanna dog owners, from navigating busy Cathedral Road to enjoying off-lead exercise in Bute Park and Llandaff Fields.
Pontcanna presents unique training opportunities shaped by its village-like atmosphere within Cardiff city. The area's exceptional green spaces including Pontcanna Fields, proximity to Bute Park, and the Taff Trail provide excellent training environments, but also mean dogs encounter numerous other canines daily. Proper socialisation and reliable recall become essential for safe, enjoyable walks along these popular routes.
The neighbourhood's characteristic Victorian and Edwardian terraced housing with compact gardens means most exercise happens in public spaces. Our trainers specialise in addressing urban challenges including traffic awareness along busy Cathedral Road, calm behaviour in dog-friendly establishments on Kings Road and Pontcanna Street, and appropriate responses to cyclists and runners on the Taff Trail. We understand local dynamics, ensuring your dog thrives in Pontcanna's active, community-oriented environment.
Our puppy programmes focus on the critical 8-16 week period, introducing young dogs to Pontcanna's environment including river paths, park activity, street noise, and the diverse dog population at Pontcanna Fields. Training covers house training for terraced properties, basic commands, and controlled socialisation that builds confidence around other dogs, cyclists, and children, preventing future behavioural challenges.
Pontcanna's open spaces demand excellent recall skills. We develop reliable off-lead control despite distractions including wildlife along the Taff, other dogs in Bute Park, and activity throughout Pontcanna Fields. This training gives owners confidence to provide proper exercise while maintaining complete control in these popular community spaces.
High dog density on local walking routes can trigger reactivity issues. Our behaviour modification programmes address leash reactivity, barrier frustration in terraced homes, and fear-based responses. Using positive reinforcement, we help dogs learn calm behaviour when encountering triggers on narrow pavements or busy Pontcanna Fields paths.
Dog training in Pontcanna typically costs £45-70 per hour for private sessions, with 6-week programmes ranging from £300-450. Group classes cost £15-25 per session, offering excellent value for basic obedience and socialisation training in familiar local environments.
Pontcanna Fields provides excellent open space for recall training, while quieter sections of Bute Park work well for distraction training. The Taff Trail offers varied environments for lead work and urban exposure, and residential streets near Pontcanna Primary School provide controlled settings for basic obedience practice.
Professional dog training in Pontcanna creates well-mannered companions perfectly suited to this vibrant neighbourhood's lifestyle. Our proven methods combine expert techniques with intimate knowledge of local spaces, from Cathedral Road to the Taff Trail. Whether you're in a Conway Road terrace or a Plasturton Gardens home, investing in professional training ensures your dog thrives as a valued member of Pontcanna's welcoming dog-loving community.
