Nelly is an absolutely fantastic dog trainer. She has a great knowledge and understanding of the needs and struggles of our Vizsla puppy. Nelly thinks on the spot and adjusts to the situation really quickly. After addressing some of our initial challenges, she often changes up her plan for the session depending on the bits that Marvin is struggling at the time. Marvin still has its challanges, but we can definitely see a big improvement since we started training with Nelly. We're confident he'll become a great dog with Nelly's help and we can't recommend her enough
Had a few Agility lessons with Nikki and find her to be very knowledgeable and patient.
Our trainer Nelly was absolutely amazing, very knowledgeable and our puppy loved her. The advice she gave was targeted to our individual needs and we have started our training journey. We will be returning and highly recommend.
Nikki is a fantastic dog trainer and also organises additional guest training sessions. The recent training with Emma Pullen was fab picked up some very useful tips on trust building with my cocker spaniel Maverick!

We signed up to the 6 weeks 1-1 training with our dog shadow and wow what a fantastic experience. He went from being anxious, nervous around other dogs, over stimulated with other humans and very excited on the lead. He struggled to settle and struggled in day to day life. Flash forward 6 weeks with Lauren and he is a happy doggy who is more settled, has a much improved recall, is comfortable in new situations and all together less anxious. He has progressed so much in 6 weeks and we cant’t wait to continue his training. Lauren made learning with shadow so easy, personalising the training to his needs and adapting it to his reactions. We have loved the sessions and I know shadow has too. It has helped him become so much more relaxed and has learned some amazing new skills to help with life when it gets too loud. Thank you so much Lauren we are very excited to come to group classes now and continue to progress with our training 😊
Just completed a 6 week private package with focus dog training. Lauren has been amazing with my French bulldog silva and we have all learned so much! I did not think it would be possible to see a difference in her such as pulling on walks or reactive to other dogs but she has. We still have a way to go but all the tips and tricks will definitely help us keep building on enjoyable walks together. Thank you!
We’ve had a really good experience with Focus from the start. Both Rach and Lauren have been super flexible with us which has been great and very much appreciated! You can tell just how much they actually care about the dogs too. Lauren has been a fantastic trainer. We’ve gradually built upon foundational skills over time. After each session she provides feedback and some homework which is great. We’ve seen a HUGE improvement in Cooper’s lead walking, and his engagement with us on walks. We’ve learned what does and doesn’t work for Cooper, and my confidence with knowing how to deal with tricky situations on walks has definitely grown. I’ve gone from not wanting to walk him on my own through fear of him being reactive, to being able to walk him on lead in public spaces and getting him to engage with me. We use the techniques taught by Focus daily and we’re happy with Coopers progress so far. We’re hoping with consistency he continues in the right direction 😊
Lauren has been amazing. We went into this process a bit sceptical but we have learnt things we never could have done reading articles on the internet. We have a deeper understanding as Lauren is full of knowledge and is super efficient during her sessions. They were also really understanding and flexible as we had a few personal issues so had to change a few sessions. Maggie (our 9 month old Cavapoo) has really enjoyed the sessions, and when Lauren was here was the perfect dog! We will continue to put in the hard work as can see the potential and changes in Maggie already.
Wonderful trainers. Really good and helpful advice about dealing with my reactive terrier Jeff. Could not recommend them highly enough.

Amanda and her husband dog sat for us this past Saturday whilst we were at a family wedding. They were brilliant from start to finish, from initial contact and meeting ahead of the day, to keeping us informed during the day itself. Super affordable, friendly and reliable and we’ll be using again. A few pictures of Hank and Honey out at the cricket for the afternoon which they would’ve loved!
Amanda dog sit my dog at home.Paco was well looked after in his own enviroment,Amanda was great with him!I will definitely repeat with her!
After an unhappy experience with our previous dog walker Amanda has regained both our confidence in his walks away from home. She has instilled a calmness and a trust in him which we hadn't experienced before. I would highly recommend Amanda to anyone looking for an experienced, professional dog walker.
Amanda did four home puppy training sessions with my puppy and I. She taught us the basic command the we would practice on our own before the next session. I’d tried YouTube videos etc with not much luck before Amanda but the way she trains is fantastic. Exactly at the right pace for the dog and you can see she absolutely loves what she does. Ralph the Cockapoo went from pulling on the lead to walking perfectly in one session and some home practice!!! Would definitely recommend 👍🏽
Amanda looked after our dog, Alfie, for 3 nights at our house whilst we were away. We got daily updates and photos. We will certainly ask her to look after Alfie again. We strongly recommend her. Thanks Amanda

I would definitely recommend Dawn. We have a Tibetan Terrier, who can be unpredictably reactive and we have worked with Dawn during the past few months. Dawn has given me lots of really useful strategies and has been unfailingly supportive and positive. Nessa is much improved and I now know what to do when she takes the odd backward step. There has been no pressure to book lots of sessions, but Dawn has always made herself available when needed. Thank you 🐶🐾
No longer in the doghouse has been fabulous in helping get our Sprollie Alora from lead walking nightmare to a happy pup walking off lead with great recall. no longer in the doghouse have been professional throughout spending lots of time observing and advising in the best ways to get Alora to walk nicely. Also great alternative courses for keeping your dog tired out with home activities when the weather's less than ideal for outdoor walks.
Would definitely recommend Dawn to anyone who needs to work through problems with their doggos. She is very calm and professional and follows the appointments up with advice which is helpful.
Excellent support and advice for both us and our puppy, can’t thank or recommend Dawn enough
Dawn was great really helped us get through a few tricky situations with our dog. Couldn't recommend her highly enough!

We would highly recommend Louise to help you with behavioural problems that you may be having with your dog. She came to see us and listened to the issues that we were having. During this time she was also observing how our cocker spaniel was reacting to her and giving us ongoing advice and practical demonstrations. Louise also went out on a walk with us and demonstrated, from leaving the house to coming back, the importance of keeping our cocker spaniel calm. She also demonstrated various techniques whilst out walking which was really good to see in practice. At the start of the visit our cocker was quite anxious and nervous but by the end of the session she and Louise were best buddies. Louise gave us lots of brilliant advice and tips on the day, especially around setting boundaries for our dog. She helped the whole family understand the best way for us to approach the training as most of the issues were owner related! It was also really helpful afterwards to get a really comprehensive written plan that we can refer back to at any time. She also recommended some really good books to read which all helps with our training. It was great also to have a follow up visit to see how her recommendations had helped us and to have the opportunity to ask her further questions. We have certainly seen a great improvement in our dog’s behaviour after putting into practice Louise’s recommendations.
We used Louise for help with our puppy, she has given us brilliant practical advice and support to address the issues we were having, we have seen such an improvement in her behaviour. Would highly recommend to anyone!
I can’t recommend Louise enough. She has helped us with our 6 year old Poochon; building his confidence and making him a much happier dog all around.
We are currently training our cocker spaniel Ralph alongside Louise who has provided not only a great individual service but taken real care and attention to provide the help we need, she is genuine and a natural with Ralph who just loves her - would highly recommend
Louise has looked after my cat Willow a number of times whilst we have been away on holiday. She has been absolutely brilliant with him and provided him with lots of love, care and attention on her visits to feed him. I couldn't have asked for more especially as my cat is getting old and requires medication. I fully trusted Louise to look after in and I felt happy leaving Willow in her care. Thanks so much :)
Finding qualified dog trainers in Horsforth means connecting with professionals who understand the unique character of this thriving Leeds suburb. From training puppies in the residential areas near Horsforth Hall Park to managing reactive dogs along the scenic paths of the River Aire, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy socialisation programmes designed for local conditions.
Serving Horsforth town centre, New Road Side, Low Laithes, and surrounding areas including LS18 and LS5 postcodes, we've successfully trained over 1,800 dogs in the past eight years. Our expertise addresses the specific challenges of dog ownership in this popular area, from navigating busy Horsforth Station to enjoying off-lead exercise in Horsforth Park and along Rodley Nature Reserve.
Horsforth presents distinct training requirements shaped by its blend of urban amenities and countryside access. The town's excellent network of green spaces including Horsforth Hall Park, Cragg Hill, and the nearby Golden Acre Park provides wonderful training environments where dogs encounter numerous other canines daily, making proper socialisation and recall training essential for safe, enjoyable walks.
Our trainers specialise in preparing dogs for Horsforth's varied environment, from busy Town Street with its independent shops and cafés to quieter residential streets in Woodside and West End. We understand local considerations including the need for dogs to walk calmly past the popular cafés on New Road Side, navigate the busy pedestrian crossings near Morrison's, and respond reliably when off-lead in areas bordering open countryside. With many residents commuting via Horsforth Station, we also provide training for dogs who travel on trains into Leeds city centre.
Our puppy programmes focus on critical early socialisation between 8-16 weeks, introducing young dogs to Horsforth's environment including traffic on the Ring Road, crowds at Horsforth Market, and varied terrain from pavements to woodland paths. Training covers house training, lead walking, basic commands, and controlled socialisation sessions in local parks to build confidence and prevent future behavioural issues.
Horsforth's popular walking routes often reveal reactivity challenges. Our programmes address leash reactivity on narrow footpaths, fear-based responses, and over-excitement around other dogs using positive reinforcement and systematic desensitisation. Progressive training along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath and in Horsforth Park helps dogs develop calm responses to triggers.
For dogs ready for advanced work, we develop reliable off-lead control essential for safely enjoying areas like Cragg Wood and the paths along the River Aire. Training builds bombproof recall despite distractions including wildlife, other dogs, and picnickers, giving owners confidence to provide proper exercise while maintaining complete control.
Dog training in Horsforth typically costs £45-70 per hour for private sessions, with package deals of £300-480 for 6-8 week programmes offering better value. Group classes range from £15-25 per session, while comprehensive puppy courses average £180-300. Local trainers often provide free initial consultations to discuss your dog's specific needs.
Horsforth offers excellent training locations including Horsforth Hall Park for socialisation, the Leeds-Liverpool Canal towpath for distraction training, and Cragg Hill for recall work. Quieter residential streets in Low Laithes provide ideal environments for lead work, while Rodley Nature Reserve offers controlled countryside exposure. Most professional trainers conduct home visits or use these local spaces strategically.
Reputable trainers should hold certifications from organisations like the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers, Association of Pet Dog Trainers UK, or Kennel Club schemes. Look for positive reinforcement methods based on modern learning science. Local experience within Horsforth proves valuable, as trainers familiar with the area understand specific challenges including popular park dynamics and local walking routes.
