These puppy training classes were excellent! I use a rollator to walk and Kathryn helped me change exercises to accommodate my needs and adjust to doing them with my rollator. The classes were detailed, plenty of opportunity for questions or extra help and taught the basics of puppyhood such as the following commands: Sit, stay, recall, leave it, heel work, focus on owner, etc. The classes were a maximum of 5 which was a lot better and meant Kathryn could give each of us the individual attention and provide alternative ways, adjustments and methods of training. She showed the value of high value versus lower value treats and how to slowly reduce value, quantity and need for treats as we progress and to replace with affection instead of treats. At the end, we got a certificate and rosette for completing the class. I would highly recommend this puppy class for new puppy parents.
Great course. Learned a lot and would recommend it.
Had a great experience with Luna at puppy training, Luna has gained some great skills and I have also learnt a lot in dog behaviour. Highly recommend.
Kathryn is a fabulous trainer, the whole puppy training course was so enjoyable. We were all made to feel welcome and comfortable. The easy way in which Kathryn explains things helps you feel confident and motivated to work with your pup. We loved every minute - wish it was a bit longer though as it was so good.
Kathryn is a brilliant trainer. We struggled to get our dog onto a puppy training course and Kathryn suggested the Gun Dog Training Stage 1 as an alternative. This was perfect as we learnt basic commands and developed our bond. We now have the skills needed to manage a very active young dog. We loved it!

Dawn is an amazing dog handler/trainer. She is very enthusiastic, and realistic regarding each dog's ability. Understanding that most of our dogs are pets we want to be happy, sociable animals. She is encouraging, and always very positive. My dog even entered obedience in competitions! Very unusual for a Pug!!! I highly recommend Preston Trick Dogs.
Dawn is knowledgeable and intuitive trainer with good knowledge or a variety of dog sports including tricks, heelwork to music and obedience. A qualified Good citizen assessor and brilliant empathetic understanding of dogs and how to communicate information to handlers in an easily understandable way.
Dawn is amazing. I’ve done a few workshops with her, she’s very knowledgeable, and makes the learning fun for the dog and handler alike. Can’t wait for my next session with her

Harrison’s Dog Training was recommended by our local vet as an experienced positive skills based trainer. We chose the Pet Gun Dog classes for our Labrador, to work on engagement and impulse control. She has thoroughly enjoyed all the activities and it has been great to see her use her working dog brain in a fun, force free environment. We would highly recommend Harrison’s Dog Training for all breeds of dog, as there are classes for many different abilities and ages.
Very patient and understanding with our reactive dog Flora
Highly recommend these puppy classes our puppy has enjoyed them very much and we both have learned a lot which will definitely be helpful going forward *****
Having taken on a rescue from Romania we were beginning to despair if we could ever get him to settle and behave but Myles gave us the tools and the confidence that made the difference. We now have a more contented and well behaved dog. It takes dedication but with Myles help and support it has been so worth it.
Have been using Harrisons since my dog was 3 months old. Started with puppy class, moving onto Bronze awards and also had some 1-2-1 support. Myles has great knowledge in dog training and behaviours. Together with Tina and their doggy helpers make a great team and i would highly recommend for a dog of any age and ability.

I have been working with Martina with my hard wired Border Collie for several months now and the change in both myself and my dog has been unbelievable. Small steps, patience and persistence certainly does pay off. Martina is a brilliant trainer, she's certainly been patient with not only my dog but me too. I had tried other trainers previously but never seemed to be progressing but now my dog is amazing me on a daily basis and we're moving forward step by step. It's paying off! Thanks Martina, you're brilliant and I can't thank you enough.
Originally I contacted Martina regarding training for our rescue, anxious and reactive dog to help us to manage her reactivity around sheep. We have learned so much more! The best thing in having one to one training session with Martina every two weeks is direct and personalised plan. She always has got an advice how to overcome setbacks, and how to adjust training plan according to specific situation. Thanks to Martina I do feel motivated to train with my two dogs for few minutes nearly everyday and can see a big difference in their behaviour. I highly recommend That Will Do Academy for any dog owner who is looking for an experienced dog trainer.
Highly recommended, I am having 1-2-1 sessions and also using the training platform. I am seeing some very good results with less anxiety and reactivity from my dog and I am so much more able to recognise what is happening when it does, and now know which tools I can use to help her (my dog). Thank you Martina
I had several online one-to-one sessions with Martina last year after an initial in person session. These were for me and my adolescent boy that I'd recently taken on after he was found straying in my local area. Martina has a huge amount of knowledge and I have learnt an amazing amount. I also signed up to The Collie Club so that I could continue my learning as I was new to border collies as a breed. There are a vast amount of videos on here and it's great to be able to watch and digest them in your own time. Would highly recommend Martina and The Collie Club for anyone with a herding breed.
Martina is a great dog trainer and a very special person. My border collie Linux and I have both learnt so much from our time with Martina! She has given us so much advice, support and the time with her is just invaluable. Thank you Martina

Finding experienced dog trainers in Garstang means connecting with professionals who understand the unique character of this historic Lancashire market town. From training puppies along the scenic Lancaster Canal towpath to managing reactive dogs in Garstang's bustling Thursday market, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy socialisation programmes tailored to rural town life.
Serving Garstang and surrounding villages including Bonds, Calder Vale, Scorton, and Catterall, we've successfully trained over 850 dogs in the local area during the past eight years. Our expertise addresses the specific needs of Garstang dog owners, from navigating livestock encounters on countryside walks to ensuring excellent recall in Garstang's riverside parks.
Garstang presents distinctive training requirements shaped by its rural market town character and surrounding countryside. The town's proximity to working farms and agricultural land means dogs must learn livestock awareness and strong recall to prevent chasing sheep or cattle. Popular walking routes along the Lancaster Canal and through Garstang Country Hotel grounds provide excellent training environments but require dogs with reliable off-lead control.
The weekly Thursday market on High Street brings crowds and distractions, making urban manners essential despite the town's rural setting. Our trainers specialise in preparing dogs for both countryside adventures and town centre visits, ensuring your companion behaves impeccably whether encountering horses on bridle paths or navigating the cobbles around St Thomas's Church. We understand local challenges including seasonal shooting activities, agricultural machinery noise, and the wildlife found throughout Wyreside Ecology Park.
Our puppy programmes build confident foundations through exposure to Garstang's unique environment including canal boats, farm animals, country pubs, and market day activities. Training covers essential commands, lead walking, and appropriate responses to livestock, cyclists on towpaths, and wildlife encounters. Controlled socialisation sessions help puppies develop into well-adjusted dogs comfortable in both rural and town settings.
Reliable recall proves essential for safely enjoying Garstang's extensive countryside walks. Our advanced training develops bombproof responses despite distractions including rabbits, deer, livestock, and other dogs on popular routes around Barnacre Reservoir and through woodland trails. This training provides the freedom to explore Garstang's beautiful surroundings while maintaining complete control.
Our behaviour modification programmes address reactivity issues on Garstang's narrow pavements and quiet lanes where encounters with other dogs can be challenging. Using positive reinforcement techniques, we help dogs learn calm responses when meeting others on the canal towpath or during market day visits, building confidence and reducing stress for both dogs and owners.
Dog training in Garstang typically ranges from £35-65 per hour for private sessions, with packages of 6-8 weeks costing £240-420. Group classes cost £10-18 per session, while specialist behaviour consultations range from £55-85. Local trainers often provide mobile services throughout Garstang and surrounding villages at no additional travel cost within a 5-mile radius.
Absolutely. Training for countryside walks focuses on livestock awareness, reliable recall despite wildlife distractions, and appropriate behaviour on shared paths. Most dogs achieve good countryside manners within 8-12 weeks of consistent training, though livestock-proofing requires ongoing reinforcement. We conduct practical training sessions on local footpaths, bridleways, and around working farms to ensure real-world reliability in Garstang's rural environment.
Professional dog training in Garstang creates well-mannered companions suited to both rural countryside adventures and market town life. Our proven methods combine practical expertise with deep knowledge of local environments, ensuring your dog thrives whether exploring canal towpaths or visiting High Street shops. Contact us today to schedule your initial consultation and start building the reliable, happy companion perfectly suited to Garstang living.
