I can’t thank Brian enough for his guidance, patience, and expertise. He has helped us build Buddy’s obedience and turned our walks into something we both love. Before starting the 12-week program, my golden retriever was extremely reactive, and pulled on the lead. I struggled to walk him, and it was a daily challenge. Now, after completing the program, he heels beautifully by my side, and doesn’t react to other dog. We enjoy peaceful, stress-free walks together. The transformation has been incredible.

I would highly recommend this training service. I feel like I am seeing the light after a struggle with my reactive dog thanks to the help and support from Brian and the team. Very approachable trainers.

Where to begin??? My big (and he's huge) black lab Baxter couldn't set sight on any other dog without reacting. LOUD barking and lunging to the point where I would drive miles to the middle of nowhere to walk him as my anxiety was through the roof and I didn't want to risk meeting another dog. Then I got in touch with T.P.K.T. They tailored a block of sessions to our needs which we are just over half way through. The difference in Baxter is unreal, today for example, at a session, we were in the park with 2 other dogs and he was lying down just watching them do their thing!!!! At an earlier session we actually walked alongside another dog!!!! We still have wee blips but like I said we are only half way through. The big difference is I now have more confidence to walk him in well known dog walking areas. Brian's knowledge and understanding of dogs is quite incredible and I can't thank him enough for the progress so far!!! Long story short..... don't think twice about booking T.P.K.T

We started working with Teachers Pet when our puppy was about 6 months old. We have a Great Dane puppy who can certainly be a handful and Brian has been excellent to work with. As well as training our dog it is training us as owners so we can achieve our ideal results. They have access to great facilities and the training has been very clear and we have seen great progress almost instantly. We're very excited to reach the end of our course and believe that we will have a well mannered and obedient dog.

We’re almost half way through our training plan at the moment and we are already impressed with the progress we have made in such a small amount of time. Brian’s knowledge and expertise are first class, his advice and guidance has really helped not just train buddy, but train us as his owners. We’re very grateful we came across Teachers Pet K9 Training and would highly recommend the company to anyone looking for help with training their dogs.

I recently did a webinar with Yvonne on Fireworks and collies. Yvonne was very helpful and full of advice which I am going to try with my own collie.

First-class! Yvonne’s support in helping us begin to desensitise our adorable but nervous little Collie girl, is wonderful. Less than a week into the process, and she is already less reactive to some of the trigger sounds that were just changing her personality in a heart-beat, (including fireworks, the noise of young children playing, and alarms). So distressing for us, and Yvonne’s pragmatic, personalised approach has given us real optimism that we can make this little dog’s life even more complete. I’m very impressed.

I joined a Fireworks webinar with Yvonne in early August 2025 which was scheduled several months before Bonfire Night to enable us to use the tools she gave us to work with well ahead of the night itself. Yvonne gave generously of her time during the webinar and since then has provided materials for us to use. We can also contact her for ongoing support, if required. Thank you, Yvonne.

Just shared a very interesting presentation by Yvonne, The Collie Whisperer. This lady obviously knows dogs, and especially collies, very well. Yvonne has provided a programme to follow to desensitise my collie before bonfire night. It sounds fairly easy to follow 🤞. I’ll start tomorrow. Thanks Yvonne

Returning customer to my favourite pet shop! This is a fantastic business - the service is wonderful, so welcoming, friendly and helpful and always have time to make a fuss of my dog. Their stock selection for treat paste and pate flavours is fantastic (and not something I have ever found elsewhere!). Such a wonderful toy selection - excellent value prices and always have different toys and items when visiting making it as fun for the dog as it for me 😊 Highly recommended ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This business is amazing! I have been going here for a long time now for the choice of healthy products but mainly the staff! They are friendly, welcoming and more importantly very knowledgeable. I recently had to change my brand of dog food from an online tailored brand to a new one because my dog stopped eating it after many years. The company had had issues with suppliers but failed to mention this to the customers till after they had rectified it. One visit to this store and he is now on a senior version of highland hounds which he loves! I was given the advice on changing over and also the dilution of water so he still had a crunch, right down to how his toilets should look! All things I had taken for granted were all fine on his previous food I think he is now a happier dog and his coat and I think his waistline is looking better for it!!! I will be going in at the weekend to purchase a big bag as I now know this is the food for him. I cannot praise this shop highly enough they truly care about the wellbeing and health of animals and this shines through when you go in.

Do you have a canine pal at home? Fancy giving them a treat? Look no further. A cave of nasty smelling wonders awaits, a cornucopia of chewable delicacies, each one lovingly hacked off something dead. The latest in fashion, from collars to leads. Harnesses to blankets. Beds to fluffy toys to tear apart and more. My dog loves a visit. I'm sure yours will too.

I had a session with Mike today and all i can say is amazing. He was brilliant at listening to my issues with my dog and has given me the confidence to continue with the training and i mean training in the right way. No more apps, you tubes videos or other trainers. He really listened and he was very honest with me about my relationship with my dog. The practical work we did was daunting to start with but he showed me how easy it can be if i am shown the correct skills for a very knowledgeable, experienced trainer. I also have the safety net if rrquiwred ro be able to contact hom in the future if i am struggling with any of it. I definitely do not feel left alone after the session like i have done from previous trainers. I wish i had contacted him a very long time ago. 100% would recommend contacting him for any problems or training issues

Professional Dog Trainers in Smithton: Expert Canine Behaviour Training

Finding qualified dog trainers in Smithton means connecting with professionals who understand the unique needs of this close-knit Tasmanian community. Whether you're training a working dog for rural properties, socialising a puppy at Smithton Recreation Ground, or addressing behavioural issues in companion dogs, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy programmes tailored to local lifestyle requirements.

Serving Smithton and surrounding areas including Duck River, Edith Creek, and Montumana, we've successfully trained over 450 dogs in the Circular Head region. Our expertise addresses the specific challenges of dog ownership in this rural coastal area, from livestock awareness training to managing dogs in farming environments and preparing them for life in Tasmania's northwest community.

Why Choose Professional Dog Training in Smithton

Smithton's rural character and agricultural heritage create distinct training needs for both working dogs and family companions. The area's mix of farmland, coastal reserves, and residential properties means dogs often encounter livestock, native wildlife, and varying terrain that requires specific training approaches. Our trainers specialise in teaching reliable recall near Duck Bay, livestock awareness for farm dogs, and appropriate behaviour around the local agricultural shows and community events.

With many Smithton residents owning working breeds or dogs living on larger properties, professional training ensures dogs respond reliably whether herding stock, protecting property, or serving as family companions. We understand local requirements including training dogs to work effectively on farms, managing prey drive around native wildlife near the Duck River, and developing good manners for dogs that accompany owners throughout this tight-knit rural community.

Dog Training Solutions for Smithton Residents

Working Dog and Farm Dog Training

Our specialised programmes for working dogs focus on livestock handling, boundary training for large properties, and developing reliable recall even with strong prey drive. We train dogs to work effectively with cattle and sheep, respect boundary lines, and respond to commands at distance across paddocks and farm environments common throughout the Circular Head region.

Puppy Socialisation and Foundation Training

Puppy training builds essential foundations during the critical 8-16 week period, introducing young dogs to Smithton's rural environment including farm machinery, livestock, coastal conditions, and community settings. We cover house training, crate training, bite inhibition, and basic commands while ensuring puppies develop confidence around the diverse situations they'll encounter in rural Tasmania.

Behaviour Modification and Obedience Training

Our behaviour programmes address common issues including excessive barking on properties, livestock chasing, aggression towards other dogs, and poor recall. Using positive reinforcement methods, we help dogs develop appropriate responses to triggers encountered in rural settings, creating reliable, well-adjusted companions suitable for Smithton's community-focused lifestyle.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dog Training in Smithton

How much does dog training cost in Smithton?

Dog training in Smithton typically ranges from £35-65 per hour for private sessions, with package deals offering better value at £200-400 for comprehensive programmes. Group classes cost approximately £10-18 per session. Many trainers offer mobile services throughout the Circular Head region with reasonable travel fees, and some specialise in on-farm training for working dogs at competitive rates.

Can you train my dog to work with livestock safely?

Yes, livestock training is essential for Smithton's farming community. Training teaches dogs to respond to commands around stock, move animals calmly without chasing, and respect boundary lines.
