I've been a member since TDTS first opened, and I absolutely love it. The sense of community is incredible — there's no judgment, just support and encouragement. The range of resources is fantastic, from online courses and webinars to live sessions and the absolutely amazing in-person training. It’s all excellent value for money too. The help and support available are second to none, and everyone is so friendly. I truly love being part of the TDTS family - that's really what it feels like, a dog trainers family! Thank you Lee and Helen!
Just got back from the 2-day Practical Skills weekend hosted by Lee and Helen from The Dog Trainer School — what an amazing couple of days! Full of brilliant ideas for training classes, 1-2-1s, workshops and working with my own dog too. It was a great hands-on experience, surrounded by other inspirational trainers who were so friendly, supportive and encouraging. The focus was all about keeping things fun and simple for clients, which I absolutely loved. Feeling absolutely shattered but so inspired — thank you for an awesome weekend!
I have been a TDTS member since it opened and have done several in person courses too. It’s always a fab learning experience and I come away brimming with ideas! The membership itself is an amazing resource full of value and a great supportive community 🥰
A fantastic resource for dog trainers! Helen and Lee have made my life so much easier by providing the information, training, and the support that they do. £12 a month is well worth it!! Highly reccomend to any dog trainer out there.
A brilliant Saturday in Peterborough a few weekends back with The Dog Trainer School! I attended their Workshops workshop, Lee & Helen were both so welcoming and made me feel at ease instantly. The Workshops workshop was fantastic, I had a great day learning new things and they've helped me come up with new workshop ideas for my business. Lee made sure that the course was tailored to exactly what the attendees wanted to get from the session with a perfect mix of theory and practical elements to the workshop as well as a few breaks. I also loved Helen's talk on marketing at the end as this is something I really need to improve on. I would 100% recommend The Dog Trainer School courses to anyone looking to learn new things or improve their knowledge further. I plan on signing up to their membership soon.

Mary and Yvonne are both very knowledgeable. They have given me (& my Cocker Spaniel) achievable goals and helped me understand when and why particular behaviours or situations have played out. They are always open to understanding what I want my dog to achieve; as well as directing me to what is best for the pup. My dog has truly surprised me with how keen he is to learn, even in his senior years. I really do feel like Yvonne and Mary have helped my relationship with my furry child 🐾
Absolutely BRILLIANT!! 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾
We love Progressing Partnerships, the training had been great for my relationship with my dog and Yvonne and Mary have been really helpful when we've faced challenges. Would recommend.
Mary and Yvonne helped me with my very insecure and reactive dog. She was scared of everything…people, dogs, bikes… I couldn’t walk her without barking and lunging to everything. They helped me to understand that she was just scared and they taught us how to work together to overcome her fears. Now she is a happier dog and she is enjoying life. It didn’t happen overnight and we are still working everyday but it wouldn’t have been possible without them. 🥰

We've had a great time at Acer, our puppy has learnt lots and the trainers have always been really kind and helpful.
We have been doing a 12 week foundation course with Acer gun dogs. Today we passed our field test! It has been an absolutely amazing course, brilliant teachers and is taught in such a good way. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ if you want to develop a closer bond and understanding with your dog, there is nowhere else to go!
Acer cancelled my course subscription at short notice under a very unconvincing excuse. They are very unprofessional. CORRECTION: I called the owner's (insurance-related) reason given to me for cancelling my subscription "unconvincing". In his reply, the owner states a very different reason. He chose to intervene in a family situation and disrupt an imperfect but a balance nevertheless causing much emotional turmoil. To top it all off, he made public claims about my daughter. She or people who know her are likely to find his post. This is very insensitive to a child. I won't be drawn into discussing very personal and private affairs in public. It's right to keep this 1-star review here. If the attempt at family cancelling by Acer's owner happened to my family, it can happen to others.
Excellent classes. Really recommend them.
We have been training with Acer since our puppy Lola was 8 weeks old and the courses are fantastic. For our most recent courses on the beginner gun dog course we’ve had Nicole and she is just BRILLIANT as a trainer. She has the patience of a saint and will adapt all of her advice to the individual dog. There were times where Lola just didn’t want to do as she was told/was very distracted at the field with all the smells but Nicole always came up with ways to support and help us and never made it seem like an impossible task! The advice is always tailored to you personally and the experiences you’re going through with your own dog. We couldn’t recommend Acer enough!
Finding qualified dog trainers in Histon means connecting with professionals who understand the unique character of this thriving Cambridgeshire village. From training puppies near the historic Histon & Impington Recreation Ground to managing recall in the fields surrounding the village, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy socialisation programmes designed for local conditions.
Serving Histon, neighbouring Impington, and the surrounding villages including Cottenham and Milton, we've successfully trained over 850 dogs in the Cambridge area during the past eight years. Our expertise addresses the specific needs of village life, from navigating the busy High Street to enjoying off-lead walks along the Guided Busway path.
Histon presents unique training opportunities shaped by its village character and proximity to Cambridge. The combination of residential streets, local parks like the Brook and surrounding agricultural land means dogs need both urban manners and reliable rural recall. Popular walking routes including the Guided Busway path and footpaths toward Oakington require dogs with excellent lead manners around cyclists and joggers.
Our trainers understand local life, from busy school run times along Villa Road and Station Road to weekend activity at Histon & Impington Recreation Ground. We specialise in training dogs for village living, ensuring they're comfortable with delivery vehicles on narrow lanes, relaxed around other dogs at the recreation ground, and reliable when encountering livestock on nearby footpaths. Many Histon residents commute to Cambridge, so we also address separation anxiety and home-alone behaviour.
We provide comprehensive dog training services throughout Histon, Impington, and neighbouring communities in the CB24 postcode area. Our trainers work near local landmarks including St Andrew's Church, Histon & Impington Village College, the Co-op on the High Street, and throughout residential areas from the Brook development to roads near the historic former Chivers factory site. Sessions take place in your home, local parks, or quiet training locations suited to your dog's needs, with consultations typically scheduled within 24-48 hours.
Our puppy programmes focus on the critical 8-16 week socialisation period, introducing young dogs to Histon's village environment including traffic, cyclists on the Busway path, and various surfaces found throughout local streets and footpaths. Training covers house training, crate training, bite inhibition, and essential commands, with socialisation sessions helping puppies develop confidence around other dogs and people.
For dogs enjoying Histon's surrounding countryside, reliable recall is essential. We develop off-lead control suitable for fields, footpaths, and open spaces, training dogs to respond despite distractions including wildlife, livestock, and other dogs, ensuring safe exercise while maintaining complete control.
Our behaviour programmes address leash reactivity on village pavements, barrier frustration, and fear-based responses. Using positive reinforcement, we help dogs learn calm behaviour when encountering other dogs on narrow lanes or busy areas near the village centre.
Dog training in Histon typically ranges from £45-80 per hour for private sessions, with 6-week packages averaging £300-480. Group classes cost £15-25 per session, offering excellent value for puppy socialisation and basic obedience training.
Popular training locations include Histon & Impington Recreation Ground, the Guided Busway path for lead walking practice, and quiet residential streets. For advanced off-lead training, we use surrounding fields and footpaths with appropriate permissions, always respecting local wildlife and livestock.
Yes, cyclist reactivity is common on the Guided Busway path. We use systematic desensitisation, gradually exposing dogs to cyclists at comfortable distances while rewarding calm behaviour. Most dogs show improvement within 4-6 weeks of consistent training.
