We had our first session with Matt today and it was amazing! Our 11 month old Gatsby really took to the training straight away, and we were left with so many practical lessons that we can put into action at home. What stood out most was how clear and approachable Matt’s teaching style is, he made sure we understood not just what to do, but why it works, which gave us a lot of confidence moving forward. Gatsby was completely engaged throughout the session, and it was definitely so rewarding to see him respond so positively in such a short amount of time. It’s obvious Matt has a real passion for dogs and a depth of knowledge to match. We came away feeling more equipped and hopeful that, with consistency, gatsby will grow into a very well-mannered good boy. We’d wholeheartedly recommend Moosh K9 to anyone looking for supportive, effective training. The level of care Matt shows, towards both dogs and their owners, is something truly rare and special.
Just had a first session with Moosh k9 dog training and it was amazing, would highly recommend, I have a very nervous dog was scared to go outside and of other dogs and from one session it has helped me to understand where I was gping wrong with my dog and just by changing a few things my dog is now more confident and comfortable outside with only one session! Thank you very much, it just shows how much we need to educate ourselves and be more aware of what your dog needs.
Matt has done wonders with our dog. The time he spent with us and our dog. The collar which he used on our dog it worked wonders.. 💯% recommend.. Thank you Matt..
I recently contacted Matt as I was at the edge and we had an initial discussion about our dog’s challenges which was helpful in its own right. I decided that if just talking to him was helpful then it would be well worth having a session with him to try and help with our 2.5 yr old English Bulldog who was sound reactive, dog reactive and also people reactive (to strangers). We booked in for a session and Matt came to the house and spent about 4 hours going through how to we can set the best foundations to have a well balanced and trained dog but also how we can work to address his particular challenges. He was extremely knowledgeable about dogs and gave practical advice. Whilst he was here I could see first hand how our dog responded to him which was great. Two weeks later and putting his advice into practice and we are already in a better place with our dog. He’s not perfect but we are seeing progress. If you are looking for a no nonsense trainer who will tell you it like it is and knows his stuff then give Matt at Moosh K9 Academy a call.
Matt spent 5 hours at our house working with our lab, worked on the areas we felt needed attention and also identified more points we needed to work on. He was attentive, consistent and highly knowledgeable throughout and left is with resources and everything we needed to continue for ourselves. We saw immediate results on the day and have high hopes for the future. Can't recommend highly enough, great trainer and a lovely guy.

Tony has been going to canine karma for a couple of months now, and he absolutely loves it! The staff are so genuinely loving towards him and treat him like their own! He gets so excited when Eddie comes to pick him up, I was worried at first as Tony is a rescue and can be wary with men, but Eddie was amazing and Tony was instantly at ease. I can relax at work knowing he is well looked after with all the staff. Amazing communication throughout the day and so easy to book In. Wouldn’t have Tony anywhere else now!
Love the guys here, love their work with our working GSD.
Great day care, wonderful kennels in King's Langley and dog training available.

We had a very good experience with Harley’s doggie services. Will definitely be using all of the services regularly for the long term!
Great job. I can recommend.
Had an excellent service from Nick today. Right from the outset, he was very flexible and accommodating when booking. My dog had previously had a poor experience with another groomer so felt a little apprehensive but Nick was so kind, gentle and patient. He reassured me that he would take his time and go slowly. Bertie was the happiest dog ever when I picked him up. He looked and smelt lovely. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Nick. You can clearly see that he’s passionate about what he does and loves dogs! Your dog will be in very safe hands. Thank you so much.
Another fantastic groom by Nick. Brilliant service thank you!!
Really great and friendly service. Thank you!

Mel is wonderful with my dogs. They had a wonderful time staying with her and they are looking forward to their next stay. You could see they had clearly bonded
Mel is an absolutely wonderful dog walker and my two dogs have both been very happy staying with her while we're away. It's obvious to see how much they love her. I feel confident leaving our dogs with Mel as I know they get great walks and lots of love. I would definitely recommend.
My dog Baxter is completely obsessed with Mel. I could not recommend her highly enough 🤩
I found Melanie by pure chance encounter, she takes my boy out with other dogs while i’m at work and he loves it & her! Great socialising for him. Super flexible, easy to deal with and a true gem. Highly recommend!
There aren’t enough words to describe the feeling of ease and comfort I feel driving away knowing that my fur baby is in the hands of Mel. I trust her implicitly, it is my pooch’s home from home- she is her other mum!! Miss Moo gives it away with the happy bum wiggle every time Mel comes to collect her!

Finding qualified dog trainers in Sopwell means connecting with professionals who understand this historic St Albans neighbourhood's unique character. From training puppies near the tranquil Sopwell Nunnery ruins to managing reactive dogs along the Ver Valley Walk, our certified trainers deliver personalised obedience training, behaviour modification, and puppy socialisation programmes designed for suburban living.
Serving all areas throughout Sopwell including Cottonmill Lane, Camp Road, and the residential streets surrounding Verulamium Park, we've successfully trained over 450 dogs in the local area during the past eight years. Our expertise addresses the specific needs of dog ownership in this green, family-oriented community where countryside walks meet suburban convenience.
Sopwell presents distinctive training opportunities shaped by its proximity to Verulamium Park, the River Ver, and extensive footpath networks. Dogs in this area require excellent recall for safely enjoying off-lead exercise in open spaces, along with solid lead manners for navigating residential streets and encountering other dogs on popular walking routes through Sopwell Mill Lane and around the Cottonmill area.
Our trainers specialise in creating confident dogs comfortable with Sopwell's mix of urban and rural environments, from the busy Cottonmill Lane junction to the peaceful riverside paths. We understand local considerations including wildlife encounters along the Ver Valley, seasonal park usage at Verulamium, and the community expectations for responsible dog ownership in this well-established neighbourhood where gardens back onto footpaths and families regularly use local green spaces.
Our puppy programmes establish crucial foundations during the vital 8-16 week socialisation period. We introduce young dogs to Sopwell's environment including traffic on Holywell Hill, footpaths through Verulamium Park, and encounters with other dogs, cyclists, and families. Training covers house training, recall, lead walking, and bite inhibition through controlled sessions in local parks and quiet residential areas, preventing future behavioural problems.
Sopwell's extensive walking routes demand reliable recall training. We develop off-lead reliability despite distractions including squirrels in Verulamium Park, other dogs along the Ver Valley Walk, and wildlife near the River Ver. Training ensures dogs respond immediately to commands even in high-distraction environments, giving owners confidence to provide proper exercise while maintaining complete control throughout the area's beautiful open spaces.
Popular walking routes can trigger or worsen reactivity issues. Our behaviour modification programmes address leash reactivity on narrow footpaths, fear-based responses, and over-excitement when encountering other dogs. Using positive reinforcement and systematic desensitisation, we help dogs learn calm responses to triggers, replacing pulling and barking with focus and self-control on everyday walks through Sopwell's neighbourhoods and parks.
Dog training in Sopwell typically ranges from £45-80 per hour for private sessions, with 6-week programmes costing £300-480. Group classes cost £15-25 per session. Many trainers offer free initial consultations to discuss your dog's specific needs and recommend appropriate training approaches for Sopwell's suburban environment.
Verulamium Park offers excellent training environments with open spaces and controlled distractions. The Ver Valley Walk provides quieter routes for nervous dogs, while Cottonmill area offers suburban settings for practicing lead manners. Our trainers utilize various local locations to ensure training translates to real-world situations throughout your daily walking routes.
Begin training immediately when bringing your puppy home around 8 weeks old. The critical socialisation window between 8-16 weeks makes early exposure to Sopwell's environment essential. However, dogs of all ages benefit from training—adult and rescue dogs can learn new behaviours and overcome existing issues regardless of their history.
Professional dog training in Sopwell creates well-adjusted canine companions perfectly suited to this neighbourhood's lifestyle. Our proven methods combine practical techniques with local knowledge, ensuring your dog confidently navigates Verulamium Park, walks calmly along residential streets, and responds reliably throughout the area's extensive footpath network. Contact us today to schedule your consultation and begin developing the well-trained dog who enhances your enjoyment of everything Sopwell offers.
